Getting started

Read the short guide. The welcome screen includes a practice scale that does not save records. Skip it or start your first check-in. Tap + on the calendar to add a record, then slide along the arc and release to save. You can also choose the standard slider and an explicit Save button.

Why aren’t my iCloud records appearing?

iCloud Sync is on by default. Check that both devices use the same iCloud account and have network access. Open Settings in Emberday to see sync status and retry errors. Core recording works without iCloud. Places, app preferences and Apple Health estimates do not sync with your journal. Sync is not a separate versioned backup.

If the app reports that the iCloud account changed, sign back in to the account originally used for this journal, then retry. Emberday pauses sync to keep an existing journal from being uploaded to a different account.

Why can’t I send a note?

Each note supports up to 500 characters. Shorten a longer note to enable Send. If saving fails, your draft stays in the composer so you can retry.

Why didn’t a question appear at the scheduled time?

Frequency determines when a check-in becomes due. The question appears the next time you open the app outside quiet hours. Emberday does not send notification reminders.

What happens if I decline a permission?

Mood check-ins still work. Places and Apple Health are optional and off by default. You can create a place label manually without allowing device location. Automatic place capture uses a single location for a current check-in, with no background tracking. Manual historical check-ins do not attach your current location.

Why is there no health estimate?

Enable the feature in Settings > Optional features, then choose what to share in the Apple Health permission sheet. Finishing this sheet does not guarantee that the app can read samples. The app needs comparable HRV readings and at least 14 reference days in the preceding 28 days, including three in the last week. Source changes, exercise, sleep, mindfulness, travel or missing time-zone context can leave a measurement without an estimate. No data does not mean zero stress or good health.

Read “About the estimate” in the health view for the calculation and limitations. Estimates are not clinically validated or measurements of psychological stress. They cannot diagnose, treat or rule out a condition. Seek appropriate medical care for persistent or worsening symptoms.

How do I delete my information?

  • Delete a note or check-in from its detail screen.
  • Settings > Data > Delete all data clears optional local context, then removes the cloud copy before local journal records. Cloud access may be required. Wait for completion and resolve any errors before assuming deletion succeeded.
  • Delete iCloud copy keeps local records. Later edits can sync again if sync remains enabled. Turning sync off or uninstalling does not delete a previous cloud copy.
  • Optional features > Data & privacy > Delete all place data removes place labels and attached places.
  • Turning off health access clears in-memory results but does not delete original Apple Health records or revoke system permissions. Manage those in Apple Health.

Support cannot recover a developer-hosted copy of your journal because we do not maintain one. Do not uninstall as a troubleshooting step unless you intend to remove local information. See our privacy policy.

App lock and device changes

App lock uses authentication provided by your device. If authentication fails, check Face ID, Touch ID or passcode settings on the device. The lock protects the app interface; it does not add a separate encryption layer. Contact support without sharing passcodes if the issue persists.
